# Wallets

## What is a cryptocurrency wallet (i.e. "wallet")?

> A **cryptocurrency wallet** is a device, physical medium, program or a service which stores the [public and/or private keys](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public-key_cryptography) for [cryptocurrency](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptocurrency) transactions. In addition to this basic function of storing the keys, a cryptocurrency wallet more often also offers the functionality of [encrypting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encrypting) and/or [signing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_signature) information.
